How much more for war?

How much have we spent in Iraq? Something more than half-a-trillion dollars is the answer, I think, almost all of it outside the normal budget process. It is now beyond argument that we will be paying this bill for many many more years. The damage done to the republic by Bush and Co. is far more than most Republicans want to admit. But how any principled person can read the news of the last two days and still think the answer lies in hiring the Republicans to run the federal government should have their head examined.
