The banality of imbecility

Fresh off an embarrassing performance on Bill Maher which exposed her as a financial reporter that doesn't actually understand financial matters, CNBC's Erin Burnett on "White & Bitter"* stated (I'll paraphrase but a transcript will show it's relatively accurate)...

"Unemployed people choose to remain unemployed until they have collected all of their unemployement? And this is a HUGE cost to employer's bottom lines."

As an employer I can tell you that the actual answer is "NO" and "not all that much" Erin.

There followed much intellectual masturbation between she and her beady-eyed host that maybe unemployment benefits should be gotten rid of...

In other words, if you get laid-off, not only can you not afford to keep your health insurance thanks to the way COBRA works, but why should you be able to afford stuff like rent/mortgages or food? You are now a worthless sumbitch not worthy of the value Erin Burnett and Joe Scarborough provide our society. And let's not even mention the incredible contribution Mika provides with her tight-v-neck sweatered grunts of intimidated validity towards Joe.

i.e, Just shoot yourselves, unemployed people.

The understanding both of how unemployment ACTUALLY WORKS and why it is a public good not only for its providing a bare measure of safety and EFFICIENCY in the market place is totally out of their realm of understanding.
