And now shut up

A very good post about the repeal of DADT and the non-effect of allowing gays and lesbians to serve in the military from Pam Spalding.

And look at what a few predicted in opposing.
“I hope that when we pass this legislation that we will understand that we are doing great damage, and we could possibly and probably—as the commandant of the Marine Corps said and I’ve been told by literally thousands of members of the military—harm the battle effectiveness, which is so vital to the support, to the survival of our young men and women in the military.” - Sen. John McCain, 2010
So much bullshit in one long drone-on sentence. Can you imagine John McCain being the guy who talks about gays to thousands of members?...ok, I could have phrased that less pithily.
If the law is overturned and open homosexuals are welcomed into the military, the number of homosexuals in the armed forces can only increase—leading to a corresponding increase in same-sex sexual assaults.” – Peter Sprigg, Family Research Council, 2010
i.e. "I prefer military straight and traditionally rapey."

I think Mr. Sprigg has other issues.

From the Newsweek article on "same-sex sexual assaults".

Like in prisons and other predominantly male environments, experts say male-on-male assault in the military is motivated not by homosexuality, but power, intimidation, and domination. Assault victims, both male and female, are typically young and low-ranking; they are targeted for their vulnerability.

'Often, in male-on-male cases, assailants go after those they assume are Gay, even if they are not,' wrote Ellison.

'One of the reasons people commit sexual assault is to put people in their place, to drive them out,' Mic Hunter, author of Honor Betrayed: Sexual Abuse in America's Military, told Newsweek. 'Sexual assault isn't about sex, it's about violence.'

So in reality the repeal of DADT is letting more gays in the military so they can be assaulted by their betters. So in a way Sprigg is correct, but in an evil dominant way.
