The average Congresscritter in the House had to raise over $2000 a day, every day, in order to keep their seat. The average Senator, almost $7000. That's every day, weekends and holidays included. Ours aren't missing in action, just raising that sweet, sweet cash.
Their elections are public funded. What's their excuse?
