The former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Lord Macdonald was warned by his own employees as far back as 2006 that there were a "vast array" of News of the World phone-hacking victims.
And then this happened:
However, the hacking investigation was never widened despite pressure on the police and Lord Macdonald, the head of the Crown Prosecution Service at the time, to do so.
And then this happened:
Lord Macdonald...has since been hired by the newspaper's owner, Rupert Murdoch
I'm sure it's just a coincidence and there's no reason to suspect a connection...at all.

I suspect that the excuses made by Lord Mac and News Corp. will be received with roughly the same skepticism--and guffaws--enjoyed by an American politician when declaiming that campaign contributions do not influence legislative behavior....
