The FBI could soon solve the mystery of DB Cooper, the man sought by authorities since the 1971 hijacking of a Northwest Orient Airlines flight from Portland to Seattle, according to a witness who has been described by the agency as credible, NWCN reports. Investigators are currently attempting to link fingerprints left behind on the airplane with fingerprints obtained from the toothbrush of a man known as LD Cooper, the uncle of a tipster who contacted authorities with suspicions about her relative earlier this year. Marla Cooper says her uncle was injured when he arrived at her family's home in Sisters, Ore. the day after the hijacking, but he blamed his wounds on a car crash. "I knew he did it, it wasn't speculation, I was there when he pulled into the driveway," Marla Cooper told the news station. LD Cooper died in 1999. The hijacker bought his ticket under the alias "Dan Cooper," but news reports misidentified his name as DB Cooper. The guy's name was LD Cooper and apparently lived in the Norwest...and somehow they missed him? I can believe it. I still think it was Nixon.

If this turns out to be true
It may be the worst police work of all time.

Take this with a grain of salt. Remember the niece is selling a book, and there was no tested DNA match between Lynn Doyle Cooper and the DNA sample from the hijacker's snap-on tie.
We really should cut J. Edgar Hoover's FBI some slack, tho. Between monitoring tens of thousands of anti-war protesters and civil rights workers, and digging up dirt on anyone to the left of Richard Nixon, they just ran out of G-Men to do their G-Job.
If he was wounded in a car crash, how did he pull into the driveway?
And the screaming from the Reich-wing about who is paying for all this: (Sound of crickets.)
Next time some Reich-winger opens his pie-hole about the cost of DNA or other testing to overturn the government sending, yet another, innocent person to prison, I'm going to bring up this 40-year old case with full forensics on a dead man they can not possibly prosecute, all the while reminding them that they bitched about the cost of rape kits in Wasilla, Alaska.
A.J.
But is the FBI investigating the $16 trillion bank robbery?
I guess they only investigate when the bankers get robbed, not when the bankers do the robbing.
Isn't there a statute of limitations on this? Just asking.
No statute of limitations. I don't know the exact legal machanics of it, but as I understand it, the FBI filed and indictment for the unknown person who committed the crime that remains open indefinitely without expiration.
the gnews are pissed he''s dead.
in 71' cars were tanks. i was driving a 72' oldsmobile when hit smack dab in the front by a flying WHEEL(not tire) and i drove the SS victoria home. also skid into a concrete barrier on a exit ramp. again, drove home. man i miss driving those tanks w/ couches.
