The timeless classics

Why change a winning formula?   Via Steve Benen we have Mitt Romney's current stump speech:
“We have on one side a president who wants to transform America into a European-style nation, and you have on other hand someone like myself that wants to turn around America and keep America American….”
And via Booman the whitest hits of the 1920s:
Why you should become a klansman : of interest to white, protestant, native born Americans who want to keep America American.
There's even a lovely visual display that may or may not be in the public domain. But, of course, they recycled it from someone else, the original base of the current GOP, the Know Nothings:
As the party gained support, however, the secrecy gave way to public awareness. “America For Americans,” Know Nothings chanted, demanding a twenty-one year period of naturalization and the banning of any non-native born Americans from office-holding.
I'm sure it is just a coincidence.

To be fair, we should let Willard Romney speak for himself.
