Missed opportunity

It is hard to believe that for once we may have missed the opportunity for some needless violence and death from a tragic mistake.
A replica of a U.S. aircraft carrier spotted near the coast of Iran is nothing more sinister than a movie set, Iranian media said on Sunday. The New York Times, quoting U.S. intelligence, said last week that the Iranians were building a mock-up of a U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, possibly so they could then blow it up for propaganda purposes.
If they didn't blow it up, you know every American would-be war lord from John McCain to John Bolton would be for bombing it. But whenever they lack the opportunity, there is only one possible response.
“I wish that there were. … I do not see a military option and it’s tragic.”

Eric Schmitt of the New York Times wasn’t the first to fall for the Iranian propaganda aircraft carrier story (I think it was Business Insider), but he was the one to give it credibility.

Give him another Judith Miller award. He can throw it in his garage with the rest of them

Ah, poor Grandpa Walnuts, it's so awful that there's no new war to start.

Peace is such a drag, isn't it?

"I do not see a military option and it’s tragic.” Annnnd scene.

Even though there is never any doubt that McCain wants to let slip the dogs of war as the default foreign policy solution, I'll admit to being surprised by just how fug-bucks nuts his word choices can be.
