Silent Hero

Loud has been the outrage over Abu Graib, including outrage over the outrage. But little praise, or certainly, not enough praise has been given the person who had the courage to come forward with the allegations.

I give you Sergeant Joseph Darby, who represents the best qualities of the American soldier, and the American citizen as much as any other. This year's recipient of John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.

Much attention has been spent on the perpetrators of the torture of Abu Graib, and much has been spent heaping lies about how harmless it was and how limited. But little has been spent complimenting Darby on his courage in coming forward and stating what was clearly morally wrong. Courage not understood by too many people who obviously feed upon the trough of FoxNews.
