Coup de Grâce

Scout Prime over at First Draft writes of private insurers bailing, or getting ready to bail, on New Orleans. This, as you might expect is a death blow to rebuilding from a disaster.

What is truly galling is the basis for the decision, the rebuilding of the levee system as determined by the Bush Administration (to rebuild them pretty much to the standards they had before, i.e. not strong enough for Cat 4 or 5 storms). Little reported by the national press, who have clearly grown tired of reporting about New Orleans the ramifications of this are monstrous to one of America's most significant cities.

Disgusting.
