I can't say I'm sad about the "grand bargain" falling apart

But the reasons are best summarized by Booman.

Boehner can't find the votes, doesn't want to run to Hoyer to get them, and has backed out of a commitment to a grand deal. The orange bastard is caught on flypaper and he's willing to set every dollar in the world ablaze to extract himself with his gavel intact.

Nate Silver summarizes the math in the House:

Boner has 106 votes for the Grand Bargain. Obama has 86 votes. They lose. Thanks for playing.

Who are the 86 turncoat Democrats that would vote with Obama?

192 Democratic House members less 26 in imperiled districts less 80 in Congressional Progressive Caucus equals 86 who conceivably could have had their arms twisted by Mr. "Whip Deficits Now" himself, Gerald R. Obama.

Didn't happen because it was all a Republican wet dream, anyway.

Because Obama always capitulates, Boehner and the Rethugs are not going to settle for anything less than everything they want. Even the 80% Obama was immediately willing to concede, was simply not enough.

There's always been an aura of theater about "negotiations" in Congress, but this is rapidly beginning to resemble Gilbert and Sullivan....

Dear friends, SSI and Medicare was never on the table. Both need tweeked a bit and that will come soon enough. This was done to prove what the Republicants are...Toadies to the extreme affluent. I do not adhere to the Jedi BS, but it does appear to me that the WH finally has learned how to play the game. Soon we will see if Obama is Chamberlain or Churchill. Until that time comes in a few short weeks, I'm backing my same horse. As progressive as I know I am , I'm foremost pragmatic. Until we EDUCATE the morans (sic) and depose their minions, none of this inter squabble means a twit (sic)

I seem to recall a similiar tenterhooks situation before Christmas regarding the budget.
How many times will the media republicants cry "wolf" before the world quits listening
