That's good Administerin'

Who's bright idea was this one?
ATLANTIC, Iowa (AP) - The Atlantic school district has agreed to pay $300,000 to settle a lawsuit filed over student strip searches. Settlement documents released by the district show the families of three girls will each get $100,000. Other details of the settlement were confidential. The families' lawsuit had said the girls were strip-searched in a locker room in August 2009 after a classmate reported the theft of $100 from her purse. No money was found. The lawsuit claimed the girls' state and federal rights against unreasonable searches had been violated, as was an Iowa law that specifically prohibits strip-searching students.

Why wouldn't strip searching students be ok? This sounds like the liberal nanny state trying to dictate morality to local school boards that should be free to set their own community standards for behavior.

In fact, in those cases where a student's behavior is especially offensive, perhaps summary execution would be a suitable solution. What right does a court have to interfere with a decision by a school official backed by the local school board.

Either the school has the full support of the parents to act in these situations or the next thing their will be uncontrolled anarchy in local schools enabled by the realization of the students that they are free from any consequences of their actions, like strip searches, summary execution, etc. Undisciplined schools are second only to mosques near ground zero in destroying the fabric of our society. Also, gay soldiers who escaped proper discipline during their secondary education and are now destined to live a life of condemnation that could have been avoided, too.

Uh, Anonymous... you're a libertarian against the "nanny" state? Then wouldn't you agree that government teachers have no interest in protecting and retrieving this girl's money?
The standard libertarian line would be, "If a girl is stupid enough to leave that kind of money in the locker room, she takes the risk of it being stolen. Why should she get to rely on the schools to protect her private property. That's not their job".
If you're going to be a libertarian, do it right!

This sounds like the conservative authoritarian state doing what it does best, humiliating the powerless.

There, fixed it for you.

Ummm... Sorry, but speaking as a retired teacher, I've gotta say this about the article's headline...

IT'S NOT "WHO'S"---!!!

IT'S "WHOSE"---!!!

That being said: strip searching students is an outrage so I hope somebody gets their ass sued off.

However, this could have been handled by having the accused thief of theives empty their pockets and/or lockers in front of their own parents.

Anonymous #1 should have recommended skinning and eating these obnoxious children. Summary execution is obviously way too subtle.

It's "thieves" not "theives." Also the possessive pronoun for "somebody" is not "their."

Close.

The lyrics of the song by Meridith Willson,
"Iowa Stubborn", are properly "You really ought to give Iowa a try."

Note that it comes from a Broadway musical that portrayed Iowans as comically provincial, closed-minded, and bigoted against "Bohemies", Irish, classics of literature, and anything new -- a musical written by an Iowan, who knew.

As an Iowan myself, I'll cop to most of that. However

We'll give you our shirt
And a back to go with it
If your crops should happen to die
But what the heck! You're welcome.
Glad to have you with us
Even though we may not ever mention it again.

You really ought to give Iowa a try
(Provided you are contrary)

Obviously, the solution is for all students to carry guns.
Because Jesus, Murka, Freedom.

I myself think students should be forced to attend class naked so we can be sure they're not hiding anything at any time.
