Go Figure

Meanwhile, Rupert is listening to their cell-phones.
The NYPD provides Fox News's midtown Manhattan studios 24/7 protection, The Daily Beast reports, more than any other media organization in the city. ABC, NBC and CBS pay for their own private security details whereas, according to one security expert, Fox News's around-the-clock protection by the boys in blue costs city taxpayers at least $500,000 a year. Reached for comment, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told The Beast "Each of the networks gets police coverage to varying extents based on threat information." But the other major New York-based media outlets had no knowledge of the offered protection, and one employee at ABC commented, "I would love the special favors."
And in return FoxNews will bash the #Occupy protesters for getting in the way of their batons.

Until, of course, the NYPD wants to get better pay from the City, then they will become the assholes.

I could almost justify this by noting that Murdoch's NY Post was targeted by anthrax right after 9/11, but then so was NBC and they're not using the NYPD 24/7 either...

$500,000 divided by 8,760 (number of hours in a year) gives the city of New York a cost of $57/hr.

Dividing that by 12 (assuming 4-officers per shift and 3-shifts) whittles that down to $4.75 an hour. And that doesn't include overhead, the cars out front, back-up, sick time, vacations, etc.

I don't trust these numbers at all.

What every Police Officer should realize is once the People are crushed, once the Middle Class is forever obliterated, once we are reduced to Wage Slaves chained irrevocably to be cogs in the machines of industry and war, only a small cadre of police will needed, the rest will be disposable.

In New Jersey, about 4,000 police officers have lost their jobs in the past two years (2009-2011), said Anthony Wieners, president of the state’s Policemen’s Benevolent Association.

Believe me when I say that I have no fondness whatsoever for FoxNews. However, I fail to be outraged by this. Assuming that the NYPD spokesperson was telling the truth, I'm okay with the cops making that judgment. In particular, I would not be surprised to learn that Fox gets more threats than the milquetoast stations like ABC, etc.

Like what they say or not (and again, I sure don't), being in favor of free speech means being willing to pay for protecting the hard cases, not just the easy ones or the ones you agree with.
