Well, surprise!

From the Guardian (who is blogging live the aftermath):

BBC Monitoring says it has found a website with a brief statement, in which an al-Quaida-related organisation has claimed responsibility for today's blasts.

I'll just say it early and get it out of the way.

Iraq is making these folks more sophisticated and stronger; meanwhile Afghanistan is not exactly going splendedly and the figurehead of Al Qaeda continues to avoid capture and just punishment.

We are fighting them over there; but we are simply making MORE of them. If cynics wanted to they could say Bush is making for perpetual war, whether intentional or not he is doing so.

It is time to fight them SMARTLY, it is not something this Administration has shown itself capable of doing for nearly four years. It is up to us to make them do so.

They will try to make this incident such that people don't remember their statements about fighting them there so we don't have to fight them there, but that is not the effect of their policy, the effect is that we will have to fight them here, there, and everywhere for fucking ever.

Don't let them spout there way into supporting their woebegotten and ineffective policies.
