Senator Graham’s back, going one by one through the witnesses. He challenges Ms. Chavez, but also acknowledges that he is indeed the “everyday white guy” who had raised concerns about the wise Latina remarks.
In a lecturing tone, he tells Ms. Chavez that the Republican party can’t just be a party of short little white guys. As for Judge Sotomayor’s Latina remarks, he says, “We just can’t look at her and say that’s it.” He cites endorsements by such diverse people as former F.B.I. Director Louis Freeh and Kenneth Starr, the former judge and independent counsel leading up to the Clinton impeachment.
As for Mr. Ricci, he’s welcome at Mr. Graham’s house anytime there is a fire.
Senator Graham will be there with his roll of singles.
