Glenn Beck's "intellectual Guru" about as nuts and racist as you'd expect

It's well-known that Glenn Beck's world view was shaped by a mormon "historian" named W. Cleon Skousen.

And no wonder as ol' Cleon had so many "pleasant" and "intelligent" things to spew. Pam Spalding has a run down, but a few lowlights:

“White schoolchildren would ‘envy the freedom’ of ‘colored playmates.’ Slave food, even if monotonous, was plentiful. Corn bread and bacon were the mainstays, with plenty of fruit and vegetables in season. In hog-killing time, countenances were unusually greasy.”

Whites hated slaves for their freedom!

Um, yeah...although a phrase like that would come into vogue during the Bush II years -- about hating people for their freedom -- and it was pretty much bullshit then too.

But, wait there's more:

”The tendency was to sell families as units, if for no other reason [than] to keep the slaves contented. The gangs in transit were usually a cheerful lot, though the presence of a number of the more vicious type sometimes made it necessary for them all to go in chains.

Apparently this guy though the most common slave names were Sleepy, Grumpy, Bashful, Sneezy, Happy (the most common) and Doc. Oh, and of course, Glenn, er, I mean Dopey.
