And he seemed like such a sympathetic defendant too

Hard to believe he got his kid rapin' ass convicted:

As a prophet of his polygamist sect, Warren Jeffs documented everything he did, keeping track of every marriage he performed, every young woman he wed, and even recording his intimate moments.

It was those meticulous records – including an audiotape of what prosecutors said was him sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he'd taken as a bride – that helped authorities secure two child sex assault convictions against the 55-year-old ecclesiastical head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

And now begin the appeals on religious discrimination grounds....

Unless a judge and the other folks involved can listen to a recording of a girl screaming and crying while being raped and come to the conclusion that he's practicing some religious rite, then his chance of appeal is nil.

Everything that I initially started to write made me sound like a raving vengeful bloodthirsty lunatic - too Teabirchery. I just hope he gets the treatment that he deserves.

Also too, I hope the girl/woman can recover.

After a bizarre summation in which Warren Jeffs stared silently at the jury for 24 minutes, then muttered, "I am at peace," the polygamist sect leader was convicted Thursday of two counts of child sexual abuse.

WTF? He stared at the jury for 24 minutes?

What a fuckin' loon!

Like most on the left, I have too much compassion to wish prison rape upon anyone... but I must say that someone like Jeffs is certainly testing the limits of my compassion...
