What the fuck!?

Clearly this is another FINE investment over y'know our own people.

Insurgents shot down a NATO Chinook helicopter during an overnight operation in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 37 people on board, a coalition military official said on Saturday. It was believed to be the deadliest helicopter crash in the nearly decade-long war, punctuating a surge of violence across the country even as American and NATO forces begin a modest drawdown of troops.

Afghan military officials put the death toll at 38, including 31 Americans and 7 Afghan commandos.

Obviously this means we're winning.

When George H.W. Bush claimed that we'd cured ourselves of "the Vietnam syndrome" after Gulf War I, he was promoting a lie. The U.S. has never successfully engaged in asymmetrical warfare, beginning in Vietnam, so one has to conclude that winning is now irrelevant.

Maintaining and expanding our web of foreign occupations and bases--garrisoning the world--is the object, and all expenditures of both blood and treasure are measured in how well they support that end.

I was in a local drugstore last week, when a skinheaded kid in line ahead of me was telling an acquaintance of his that "yeah, I'm on a flight Friday for Germany, and then I'm on a plane back to Kosovo." Remember Kosovo? Our military is still there, and will be as long as possible.

Our military is now the modern, high-tech version of the French Foreign Legion, and it will continue to be until we're dead fucking broke, because there's no will in either Congress or the White House to admit that this is institutional paranoia of the most destructive sort.

We'll only stay in Afghanistan until their people/institutions can take over for us.

What? You say that, after us being there 10 years, 85% of the population is still illiterate?

Get us the hell out of there.

After today's editorial out of China I'm surprised they didn't say, "You're spending MY MONEY on a war? And signaling at the same time you may default paying me back...? Eff that. No more money for you."

Hate to be the Treasury guy who has to go to the Chinese for their next loan.

Get out of that damn war. It violates every principle of war I was taught when I was in uniform.

TPTB will stay there for as long as it takes, so their political faction (aka the R or D corporate party) is not the one getting blamed for "You lost that war!" It doesn't matter to them how many flesh-and-blood people spend their last seconds of life spinning around in a burning metal flying bus that's doing the free-fall. The only thing that counts to TPTB is who gets to point the finger in some imaginary political argument that won't even take place until 20 years from now.

They don't calculate that the Empire will have imploded before then, so their premise is irrelevant. But they do calculate how much they can reap in "campaign contribution" kickbacks from the Masters of Warprofiteering until the demise of the U.S. of Armaments.

There is only one entitlement in Washington anymore and that is the Defense budget. If the Big Brass Assholes in the Pentagon say we have to build a Death Star to get the last handful of cave dwellers who don't like us, they will get it. Even if we have to put the Pres. in Sec 8 housing and rent out the White House to pay for it.

The Imperium is all and we are nothing.

False Flag operation to take the focus off the debt ceiling debacle. Now we can't cut defense spending since Al Queda is still such a threat. Our own military machine (war profiteers) did this to their own to scare up some sympathy and support. What do you think they will do to the rest of us if we resist? Follow the money people.
