That's all fine and good

Now that it affects YOU suddenly your opinion changes:

Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman on Thursday announced he has reversed his longtime opposition to same-sex marriage after reconsidering the issue because his 21-year-old son, Will, is gay.

Portman said his son, a junior at Yale University, told him and his wife, Jane, that he's gay and "it was not a choice, it was who he is and that he had been that way since he could remember."

Somebody introduce Mr. Portman to a poor person or a Muslim.

UPDATE:

I should add this does make Portman a hell of a lot better human being than Brit Hume or Alan Keyes.

Spot on.

If you needed any more proof the Republican party's real motto should be "All for me, none for thee.", here you go.

Hume and Keyes are actually human?

I think it'd have to be an actual blood relative instead of an introduction.

On a related note, Mark Sanford was profiled recently in some notworthy journal (though I've forgotten which one). Anyway, his newfound introspection and changed outlook applies strictly to politicians caught with their pants down. Otherwise, it's all just the same old wingnut...

yes. at least he embraced his child. that is a step up.

If his son were to marry a nice, poor Muslim fella, Portman's head would probably explode.

I'd be even worse if you knew the backstory on Brit Hume's son and his suicide.

IIRC, Alan Keyes disowned his daughter when she came out.
