Mmm...mmmm...my Generation!

Is probably the last generation that has a chance to make any positive contribution to prevent catastrophic climate change.

And so far all we've produced is gay marriage and the Tea Party.

So that's a mixed bag (although let's face it the Baby Boomers own the Tea Party).

So we've blown it...fortunately we have a good shot at being dead before this happens.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Starting in about a decade, Kingston, Jamaica, will probably be off-the-charts hot — permanently. Other places will soon follow. Singapore in 2028. Mexico City in 2031. Cairo in 2036. Phoenix and Honolulu in 2043. And eventually the whole world in 2047. A new study on global warming pinpoints the probable dates for when cities and ecosystems around the world will regularly experience hotter environments the likes of which they have never seen before. And for dozens of cities, mostly in the tropics, those dates are a generation or less away. "This paper is both innovative and sobering," said Oregon State University professor Jane Lubchenco, former head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, who was not involved in the study.
You can see my generation's contributions in the comment section.

Ugh.

Yeah, definitely a mixed bag -- Obama (who I still like -- sure, he disappoints, but I really think he's more or less decent), but also too Sarah Palin...

Yeah, I can't really be troubled with this. Must watch political games in Washington, then stop by my local flesh vendor to overeat, and then drive the six blocks to my home. 'merica!

Mexico City 2031.
It's hard to imagine the turmoil this will cause. Of course, we'll be busy with our own wildfires, droughts. and crop failures.

I hear your pain regarding the Tea Party, but please, please, rephrase " let's face it the Baby Boomers own the Tea Party" to "REPUBLICAN Baby Boomers own the Tea Party."

As a card-carrying liberal (probably even more than you...), I hate to be lumped into the travesties that those idiots have brought upon us all. Tnkew.

I wouldn't try to make this a generational issue. Rag on the Boomers, but work we did--beginning in the `60s and `70s--is why solar and wind have at least a foothold today. Moreover, it was the counter-culture of the `60s that first warned about planned obsolescence, mindless consumption and corporate control of the government and the economy. It was "the greatest generation" that beat back the trends that were emerging in the `60s, and ensured that Reagan and his cohort would be in a position to maintain an economic and cultural status quo that benefitted the wealthy.

Every generation has its idealists and its greedy assholes (Google--as much a signifier of the current generation as is imaginable--is now a corporate member of ALEC).

Better to consider who's right, and who's wrong, regardless of their age, or their generational designation (which is largely a media construct, anyway).

Now hold on there Montag - what do you mean by "current generation"?

Google is a company built by members of my generation - Gen X. And we're a crop of assholes. A giant, seething, cyst on the American body politic. Go look at the voting results for the last few elections and you'll see that we're right up there awful alongside the Baby Boomers as far as "horrible, horrible people in the aggregate who vote for horrible, awful people". And we always have been - just look back at the voting records for when we came of age and onward. Individually many of us are fine, decent people, but in the aggregate? We're horrible.

It's not surprising - we were raised by the Boomers after all. And in the aggregate your cohort is just awful. Many of you guys individually are great, but in the aggregate? Terrible.

Now, on the other hand, the current generation (the young folks that people brand as "Millenials") - they're good people in the aggregate. They have their share of assholes, but overall the majority of them are good people. I have high hopes for these guys because they're going to be coming into their own when its time for me to retire, and I am already feeling better about the idea of them holding the reigns of power during my retirement than I do about my own cohort holding the reigns of power during my father's retirement.

As a member of Gen X it pains me to fully agree with NonyNony. I'm amazed at how many of my friends think that Nixon and Raygun were fantastic and long for their return.

The lack of caring for others as well as the environment is stunning.

the Greatest Generation sold us out lest the "Blackman" keep Civil Rights. lots of Boomers followed their parents down the Republican rathole.
see "All in the Family". Meathead was a boomer.

Greed is Good is a Republican value with Quisling Democrats helping to "throw it all away."

everyone who voted Republican owns this, whatever "generation" they belonged to.

Hate is "the" Republican value
