I am cautiously optimistic that the Democratic leadership can traverse the minefield laid before the Republicans were given the bum's rush. The same people that made a mockery of governance the last six years are not going to leave quietly but I expect that leaders like Leahy, Waxman, and Rangel will finally shine the bright sun on the vampires that have so thoroughly made a mess of this country.
I'm still not hopeful that everything will be better. After all, it's difficult to give in completely to optimism living in a country that "re-elected" George Bush and kept the Republicans in power. So we'll only start with a modicum of hope.
