Obama ties '08 bid to Lincoln's Legacy:

"We can build a more hopeful America. And that is why, in the shadow of the Old State Capitol, where Lincoln once called on a house divided to stand together, where common hopes and common dreams still live, I stand before you today to announce my candidacy for President of the United States of America," Obama said.

The people who brought you Iraq, Gitmo, the Terry Schiavo fiasco, the attempted murder of Social Security, and the criminally negligent destruction of New Orleans (among other gems) spent 2006 trying to brand theirs as the "Party of Lincoln" in an effort to attract black voters. Never mind that the modern GOP has about as much to do with Abraham Lincoln as Christianity has to do with a jerk like this.

But the "Party of Lincoln" bamboozle isn't going to cut it this cycle. Because the skinny kid with the funny name just grabbed the mantle of Lincoln and ran with it.
