Judson Phillips, president of prominent Tea Party group Tea Party Nation, has a terrific idea: "The Founding Fathers... put certain restrictions on... the right to vote... you had to be a property owner. And that makes a lot of sense."
Judson's other proposals for qualifying to vote, subjective history exams and the paper bag test.
But remember, taxing rich people a little bit more and keeping the estate tax is CLASS WARFARE while having to own property to vote 'makes a lot of sense'.

Ah, well, it's no surprise that the people that least understand what democracy is are making anti-democratic suggestions.
it's an old, old principle--call it the John Jay model, if need be ("the people that own the country ought to run it").
But, shit, after watching the people that own the country fuck it all up in next to no time at all, one would think the Tea Partiers would figure out that, maybe, they weren't the best people to be managing things....
Attaturk,
What is it with your preoccupation with supposed bigotry in America? Three (out of a possible three) of your posts today are centered on bigotry. While there is still some instances (from right wing and left) it's really quite a ridiculous level of obsession you have, especially given that American society is the least bigotted on the planet Earth.
Seriously.
Give your head a shake. Take a nice walk in the forest. Enjoy a drink with some friends. Do something to take your mind away from this silly fixation of yours.
Revealing once again the base motivation behind the entire teabagger movement as resentment at the loss of privilege and increased equality for all people.
Oily Ass -
The notion that we are the least bigotted nation on earth displays a level of blind ignorance and/or stupidity which flatly boggles the mind. You really need to get out of your mother's basement once in a while.
Dr. Dick - I'll agree with Ollie that the US is the least racially-prejudicial country going, but that is very different than being free from prejudice. We are easily the most multi-cultural country on the planet and we co-exist in a way un-heard of in most countries. It's easy to be tolerant when ethnic diversity is sub-five percent as it is in most places. London is probably about as diverse as NYC, but I think I'd be hard pressed to find another city in the world as diverse as nearly all of our major cities - where the minorities are active, well-represented participants in civic life.
And we all know that urban areas vote for the racist Democrats, right Ollie? And the GOP is for-square behind those civil right leaders of Mississippi, Georgia, Alabama, and the bastions of diversity like Utah, Idaho, etc ...
Ollie is apparently willing to give-up on forming a more perfect union by calling out racist/bigoted, dog-whistle horse-shit when he sees it. By doing so, he chooses to be part of the problem.
...American society is the least bigotted on the planet Earth.
You communist! You forgot:
...And we have the bestest health care system anywheres.
...And we have the biggest and bestest God.
...And we are the smartest, happiest, most productive, most deserving, most caring, most mostest and bestest peoples ever, anywhere and to infinity.
...And, doggonnit, all our childrens are above average.
...God Bless America - Good America, and only Good America. Amen. Hallelujah. Pass the ammunition.

There, finished.
Why do you hate America?
DanF nicely expresses in his first paragraph, and his forthright disagreement with Dick and the general tone of the choir here took some intelligence (and gonads) on his part.
Singing out of tune in favor of America doesn't exactly endear the leftoid with the other lefties. It just doesn't fit the narrative that the more extreme leftists want to be heard. And agreeing with a member of the trolletariat, well, that's just plain blasphemous !
Hafta disagee with your subsequent paragraphs, though, Dan. You seem to forget that there is very little difference in support of the two parties, whether it be rural or urban voters.
Nicely written commentary, Dan.
ahhh, selective/neglective understanding on display
when we devolve to skating w/ the stars, can we has the guillotines?
What are you talking about OnA? We are the least racist country on the planet, but we are far from post-racial. Most people simply haven't lived outside of the US for any length of time and so have no point of comparison and just don't understand how prevalent racism is in our species.
And regardless of what you choose to see, Republican dominated states support the most virulent strains of racism and bigotry in this country. I've lived in red-dominated states and it's appalling. Pretending it isn't happening isn't going to make it go away. Only one party has racists in leadership and elected national positions. It ain't the Democrats.

Poor reading comprehension, Dan.
You seem to be seeing what you want to see, not what was actually written. Here from my first comment at 7:17 AM:

That's a ridiculous assertion and I think you know it.
Did you just throw that in for effect or were you sleeping while Robert Byrd was one of the higher profile Dems? The former kkk grand lizardness or whatever he was, up until he supposedly renounced. That is, until he used the N word in public fashion as recent as what was it, 2001?
And while were at it, how about the highest ranking current Democrat? Barack Obama (while I tend to think is doing a good job overall) is at base a racist of a certain stripe. Shall we review all of that 20 years of his very close associations with that racist Reverend Wright and his repellent church? Or how about after he got elected, and that nasty racist incident with the policeman from Massachusetts?
blah bla bl b.
My vote for a voter qualifying question:
Did Jesus ride a dinosaur?
Oh, and most of this thread is another in an infinite series of demonstrations of why Palin and her ilk are popular: just say something really stupid and the world gives you all the attention and the chatter.
I don't know how we do it, but we gotta figure out how to start IGNORING these people en masse. (I suppose it just ain't gonna happen, sigh... Oh let's all just huff stupid straight from the bag. Won't be long now, folks...)

It's Atta's blog.
Sometimes he says really stupid things just to generate the chatter.
Somebody! Stop me before I shill again!
