Since he took over from U.S.-led occupiers on June 28, Allawi has threatened tough action against insurgents carrying out a wave of car bombings, assassinations and kidnappings.
Backing those threats up, the interim government reinstated the death penalty Sunday for crimes including murder, kidnapping and drug offences, officials told a news conference.
Capital punishment was suspended after U.S.-led forces toppled Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) in April last year.
Of course, rumor has it that Allawi is a big fan of Capital Punishment, at least until his chamber's empty.
