Sexual Abuse of Prisoners

By now most of us have heard about the recent report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics has released a new report, "Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003: Sexual Violence Reported by Correctional Authorities, 2004." It is amazing that it has taken this long to begin to investigate this problem!

And no this is not some kind of bad pornography or '70s women in prison exploitation film. It is real life or something like it.

The report summarizes the results of surveys in more than 2,700 correctional facilities that identified 8,210 allegations of sexual violence in 2004. Correctional authorities substantiated nearly 2,100 incidents of sexual violence in adult prisons, local jails, and juvenile facilities during 2004.
