Prior-ities

Well, Pope Ratzi has left a smoking epistle:

Priest in the Bay Area pleads guilty to tying up a couple young kids and having his way with them. Bay Area diocese writes to the Vatican Official in charge of such matters, then Cardinal Ratzinger, wanting to defrock the guy. Ratzi does nothing for four years as the diocese occasionally asks him for direction and to get a move on. Eventually Ratzinger replies with this timeless statement:

In the November 1985 letter, Ratzinger says the arguments for removing Kiesle are of "grave significance" but added that such actions required very careful review and more time. He also urged the bishop to provide Kiesle with "as much paternal care as possible" while awaiting the decision, according to a translation for AP by Professor Thomas Habinek, chairman of the University of Southern California Classics Department.

But the future pope also noted that any decision to defrock Kiesle must take into account the "good of the universal church" and the "detriment that granting the dispensation can provoke within the community of Christ's faithful, particularly considering the young age." Kiesle was 38 at the time.

As ever what's best for the institution is it maintains its power over dangerous assholes, than that it do something about dangerous assholes. And this one has the now popes name on it.

Awesome.

But wait, as Pereene notices K-Lo has left her discount buffet to make note of the REAL scandal in the Catholic Church...liberal priests who don't molest children but preach social justice!

That's right, as pedophilia and other child abuse cases are and their cover-ups are exposed against the Catholic Church right up to St. Peter's the scandal is a Priests who likes the President.

Nice sense of proportion there moron.

Indeed, there can be no greater scandal or betrayal that for the church or its agents to actively promote the message and teachings of the Rabbi Yeshua.

Mother Church has contorted herself to the point that the raging, spittle-flecked Michelle Malkin is, indeed, the exemplar of the Good Catholic.

(BTW, if you happen to be visiting Chicago on a Sunday and you're of the Christian persuasion, try stopping by St. Sabina's on the South Side. Plenty of parking, but get there a little early. It's what Mother Church could have been, and may yet someday be.)

Once the church became institutionalized as an authoritative political and governing authority it lost its moral relevancy. I blame the Roman Empire. [shakes fist at Roman Empire]

Sylvia Poggioli had an NPR story on the abuse scandal being hushed up by John Paul II.

Interviewees point the finger at John Paul and "an atmosphere of sexual permissiveness" (yes! it is the hippies' fault!) but at a couple of places it sounds like Ratzi was the voice for investigating. Now, whether it was investigating-as-covering up or whether this is part of a Vatican CYA effort I don't know.

Sounds like the Fox News strategy.

Now if that priest had a yen for children and was prochoice, would Ratzi have moved with great speed and alacrity to layicize maybe excommunicate him?

We're vacationing in north carolina right now... how I wish I had a bumpersticker that said in big letters

READ YOUR BIBLE!
JESUS WAS AN ANTI-WAR SOCIALIST.

But some lunatic would probably deliberately smash into me with his Hummer.

On a side note. I'm really having a hard time getting past the use of "Pope", "smoking" and "epistle" without going all juvenile sexytime snark. I'm trying to be strong.

Yet more proof that the church is to spirituality as K-Lo is to objectivity....

would have been better if they had just made the pope a golden calf.

Try as i might i cant find anything light or humor in all this. Seems the facts show a clear trend with ole Ratzi. Perhaps some court will take it on as crimes against humanity? I know I know 2000 years of crimes against humanity but this is now and seems there is paper proof.
