Water is wet

And the PGA Tour is overwhelmingly Republican.

Who could have anticipated white guys who grew up at private country clubs and gated communities would vote Republican?

Yes, it's the sport of the masses alright.

The reason soccer is so popular is all you need is a field, one ball, and a couple of shirts/sticks/plastic bottles to mark the goals and twenty kids can play. Golf is the same way! Plus a 100 acres of manicured lawns, $500 for clubs, and $50 in green fees - give or take $200.

Golf, in this country, was always the game of fatcats and fatcat wannabes, I would guess. It was, after all, Bush the Younger's great-granddaddy, Herbert Walker, who created the Walker Cup, mostly because he was miffed that all the high-society attention was going to tennis because of the Davis Cup.

Golf has appealed to Repugs for a long time, mostly because it has the illusion of appearing to be athletic, and it gives plenty of opportunity for private deal-making without anyone being able to hear what's being said.

Plus, it gets them out of those stuffy Wall Street walnut-paneled offices and into the fresh air once in a while....
