For the past two decades, there has been a rapid national shift away from identification with organized religion. And last year, according to the best available measurement of long-term trends in American religious identification, a new milestone was reached. More Americans between the ages of 18-30 now identify with no religion than identify as either Protestant or Catholic.Good job right-wing assholes, you get more alienated all the time.

The statistics are equivalent to stating that more in the demographic are rational and moving away from superstition. It might indicate that young people have not missed the large number of charlatans, con men and self-serving bigots that populate religious hierarchies.
If religious leaders were concerned with humility and caring for the forgotten they might still be respected among the rational, but since many are judgmental haters there is little of value in religious philosophy.
Childish magical thinking and fear of mortality are no longer enough to keep primitives obedient.
In my part of the country most of the Baptist churches have removed 'Baptist' from their name, it having become so dirtied by Jerry Falwell and the Southern bigots.
There are actually liberal branches of the Baptist church in America, but they don't get much attention.
