In a shockingly racist move on Friday, San Francisco news station KTVU misreported the names of the pilots aboard Asiana Flight 214, which crashed at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and killed two girls from China.It was later confirmed that an "intern" at the NTSB actually did list those names.
They reported that the pilot names were Captain Sum Ting Wong, Wi Tu Lo, Ho Lee Fuk, and Bang Ding Ow.
An anchor later apologized for the error and laid the blame on an NTSB official who purportedly confirmed the names before the piece went on air. A spokesperson for NTSB told ThinkProgress that they never released any names in this case.
Uh, maybe professionals should work for the government, instead of "Sequester Specials"?

Some wag tweeted the story last night and said Politifact rated the TV report half true. I actually went to Politico to check it out.

Ah, but if it had been an AA flight and were told Mike Hunt and Seymour Butz, they would have immediately snapped to it, right?
Maybe the greater blame should go to the NTSB, because interns should, when it comes to air crashes, probably be seen and not heard.
Sure, blame the intern. How many others, particularly at the station, had to approve this copy before it went on air?
I especially love the precision with which the news reader enunciates the names. Further proof that these "journalists" will read whatever is shoved in front of them.
