Yeah, wild blue yonder and all that usual bs

Let us behold the military branch lately best known for this:
THE REPORTS OF the religious climate at the Air Force Academy are unsettling: A chaplain instructs cadets to try to convert classmates by warning that they "will burn in the fires of hell" if they do not accept Christ. During basic training, freshman cadets who decline to attend after-dinner chapel are marched back to their dormitories in "heathen flights" organized by upperclassmen. A Jewish student is taunted as a Christ killer and told that the Holocaust was the just punishment for that offense.
Is "shockingly" going after a gay officer in this manner.
The death threats began again shortly after Lieutenant Adam Cohen, a combat systems engineer in the US air force, returned from Afghanistan in October 2011. The messages, littered with obscenities and urging him to take his own life, were linked, he believes, to an alleged rape he had not reported from years earlier. But when Cohen, 29, reported the threats and the alleged sexual assault to his chain of command, he found himself under investigation.
This disturbing thing is that incidents like the above are considered parts of the "freedom" the military is always proclaimed unthinkingly of protecting as a political ritual. [cross-posted at Firedoglake]

The Air Force base budget for 2014 is $144 billion. Since our USAF is now of, by and for evangelical Christians (26% of the population), we could easily save over a hundred billion dollars on the credit card and still let them keep their share of the toys.

This is one of the things that Obama was capable of stopping dead without any input from Congress. When Kennedy realized that he had an out-of-control Joint Chiefs in the thrall of the Birchers, he enlisted the help of Eisenhower to go on tv to remind the military about civilian control, and when that didn't work, he fired or reassigned a number of generals to cut the legs out from under the cabal (in which the Air Force had considerable representation).

The wigged-out religious right has far too much influence in the military, and they are still using their commands to proselytize and intimidate non-believers, and Obama needed to sit on them and sit on them hard. Perhaps he thinks he's dependent upon them, but, believe me, you should never depend upon crazy fuckers, and many in the current top command are religious wackadoos.

Obama should have gone through them like crap through a goose.

"Nineteen hundred and forty-six. 1946, Mandrake. How does that coincide with your post-war Commie conspiracy, huh? It's incredibly obvious, isn't it? A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual. Certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works."
