Stupifying

I don't really want to think about how many times I've seen this right-wing talking point...

"Where's the rest of the world offering help for Katrina vicims?"

This of course leads to many reactions?

1. What donations have you made to helping in those disasters?
2. What donations have you made to helping THIS disaster?
3. Is this really one of the first fucking things you worry about?
4. Is this an issue because you see all those suffering African-Americans and you feel like you don't want to help "those" people who you think are all out to loot?
5. Seriously, have you ever contemplated maybe trying "foreplay"? It will make you a happier person, really -- Or at least, how about just watching something besides FoxNews?

Charity is supposed to be given because you can afford it as you live in the "United States of America" and we are generous people...allegedly. I mean we dispense humanitarian aid, food, water, medicine, armaments, dumbbombs and smartbombs all around the world -- how fucking cool is that right? Is all this aid just given out of some sense of Quid Pro D'oh!? Only some of our more repellant freeps would think that Sri Lanka needs to get off their ass and send us some road graders and water.

What the fuck are the people of Qum, Iran supposed to do...offer New Orleans some of their rubble to use as landfill? More than a third of New Orleans is very poor, but that is no comparison to being poor in Qum or Rwanda, etc.

I can only imagine how heads exploded when Hugo Chevez offered help from Venezuela!

And let's look at how we are handling the aid. Canada, seems a pretty good neighbor right? I mean, unless we're discussing their hockey, universal healthcare, or crazy-ass dangerous prescription drugs, we seem to get along pretty well. They are our neighbors after all, and we haven't threatened to invade them for more than a century, so you think we'd be cool with them.

But, oh, I guess not, found via the DAILY KOS:

On tonight's news, CTV (Canadian TV) said that support was offered from Canada. Planes are ready to load with food and medical supplies and a system called "DART" which can provide fresh water and medical supplies is standing by. Department of Homeland Security as well as other U.S. agencies were contacted by the Canadian government requesting permission to provide help. Despite this contact, Canada has not been allowed to fly supplies and personnel to the areas hit by Katrina. So, everything here is grounded. Prime Minister Paul Martin is reportedly trying to speak to President Bush tonight or tomorrow to ask him why the U.S. federal government will not allow aid from Canada into Louisiana and Mississippi. That said, the Canadian Red Cross is reportedly allowed into the area.

Canadian agencies are saying that foreign aid is probably not being permitted into Louisiana and Mississippi because of "mass confusion" at the U.S. federal level in the wake of the storm.

Back to you to bitch about something else Freeps. I'm sure you can be better about something else too -- creative grievances are after all your forte.
