To have just lent your campaign $5 million from your own bank account (when you're not exactly Mitt Romney) to pay for old debt; have many of your staff agree to go without pay; and be tapped out when you are in a war of attrition with your opponent who relies mostly on small donors...and then see this:

To a certain extent when you are Hillary Clinton you can command free air time (not all of it complimentary or fair she isn't John McCain after all); and when you are in a race this close you naturally get coverage. But still it's got to be better to be the person with money and the large number of small contributors, than to be tapped out having exhausted all of your wealthy donors.
