Depends on what you mean by 4.
If you mean "Does Obama get that 'it's the economy stupid' is what drives American politics?" then yeah, I suspect he gets it.
If you mean "Does Obama get that the Republicans are as a mass a group of people who would prefer to see the country destroyed out of spite rather than let a Democrat govern" then no, I don't think he's learned that lesson yet. Give him a year, he'll figure that one out. (He should have paid attention during the Clinton years and studied up on his Carter history, but maybe he thought they were exceptions for some god-knows-why reason).
If you mean has he learned that he should listen more to the tiny liberal base of the Democratic Party then no, he hasn't learned that lesson. And no President is going to learn that lesson until the liberal base proves that it can actually do something besides wail and gnash teeth. It needs to deliver votes or money. That's the only way that factions in a party get listened to - they deliver votes or money. The liberal base is too small to provide enough votes and too quixotic when it comes to providing money, so they don't get taken seriously.
Hopefully it convinced him that he needs to be pushing harder for Hispanic voters though. Probably saved Harry Reid's ass in Nevada this year.

I second the comments above, but would amplify the answer to #4. It is not merely, "No," it is "Hell no!"

Question 3 the answers are slim and none.
Question 4 Michelle still likes him so I would say yes.
#4 No, because I think he still has the mindset that if you reason enough and talk enough and discuss enough you can win the other side over. He thinks because he is an intelligent, thoughtful, reasonable person that others will respond to reason. I think this is most Dems blind spots. We assume that the Republicans care enough about their children and grandchildren if not their fellow man to do what is best for the American people and to clean the environment, give us good working conditions, make sure we have healthcare and can keep a roof over our heads. We cannot conceive of someone not wanting this for others or spoiling the environment for their own families.
It is hard to give up the ideals that if we try hard enough, show enough caring, help other people that they will benefit and realize and respond. That is why we always get abused by the GOP. They are fuckers who don't care about anyone or anything but themselves and power and money. It is like living with a narcissist. And believe me, I know, I lived with one for a long time. We always think they will see the light. They won't and can't. Modern brain scans back that up. Brains of left leaning and right leaning people are different. There isn't enough discussion in the world that will change that.
Kos says Obama should dump Kaine and rehab Dean as party chair. Can't say I disagree.

Thank God for this blog, an island of sanity. Its going to be painful to watch the stupidity and evil work its magic on our fellow citizens.
I'm not very hopeful at this point.
We've now got an electorate that can be fed any nonsense and vote against their interests. And with Citizens United, its only going to get worse.
the GOP has 2 years to get the economy rolling. the experts say it is far off. just have to ride it out.
but pansy, republicans will continue to sabotage the economy, but it's obama (and the dems) who will get the blame.
