The Bullshit Artist strategy

A few months ago I stated that Mitt Romney's strategy was to lie so much and so often that by the time the general election started he will be perceived as such a soulless empty suit that all the lying ends up allowing people to think he's almost human (I'm going to pretend I'm the only one who said this).

And here it is in action.

desperation doesn't work in dating situations either.

Ah, well, if one has ten different opinions on every issue, one tends to become all things to all people (well, Republican people, that is).

It's still possible that a third-party candidate will appear to appeal to the real wackos on the right, but, at the same time, it seems certain that the Rmoneybot campaign is doing everything possible to co-opt potential candidates (such as Santorum, or Rand Paul), because they will eventually drain votes mostly from the `bot.

Let's face it, though--lying is such a well-known conservative attribute that it doesn't affect conservative voters much. Yes, some want lies conforming to their narrow, radical views, but most aren't repelled by them the way ordinary people are.

Desperation works if both sides are desperate enough. The Romney/Republican Base hookup will be one they both regret the morning after the election. The Base will have compromised all of its core values and Romney still won't be President.
