Funny how that happens

So many parables go like this too. That's why they are, y'know, parables.

The worst U.S. oil spill in decades reached into precious shoreline habitat along the Gulf Coast as documents emerged showing British Petroleum downplayed the possibility of a catastrophic accident at the offshore rig that exploded.

BP suggested in a 2009 exploration plan and environmental impact analysis for the well that an accident leading to a giant crude oil spill — and serious damage to beaches, fish and mammals — was unlikely, or virtually impossible.

And now that 11 people have died (that little nugget has been forgotten in the oily deluge) and nearly 2 million gallons and counting have spilled...

Meanwhile, say hello to another familiar, and extremely profitable, villain:

Although the cause of the explosion was under investigation, many of the more than two dozen lawsuits filed in the wake of the explosion claim it was caused when workers for oil services contractor Halliburton Inc. improperly capped the well — a process known as cementing. Halliburton denied it.

Helluva job, Obamco! Geez, I hope the national environmental and conservation groups don't say anything to piss off The One. Or Rahmbo. Also.

Remember a third of a century ago? Some American president called for the "Moral Equivalent of War" to avoid this deep shit we're in now. I believe most people laughed at the "MEOW" speech, and voted for Mr. "Morning in America" the next election.

Hope you're happy, folks. We all bought this a long time ago. As an American, you're not only inheritor and beneficiary of our heritage and all the good things, but also America's blunders and mistakes. As Americans, we deserve this, because we chose it. That's what democracy means.

Get used to paying for the stupid. Get used to the way things are gonna be from now on.

What Stony Pillow said.

Carter was a damn visionary, and our 'conventional wisdom' is that he's a failure. And of course, Al Gore's name is synonomous with a loopy tree-hugger.

Just came back from a week in Vancouver. Such a contrast with America. The quality of life can be so much better when money is spent better and more intelligence and humanity is applied.
