I guess I could say that I don't mean to offend

When I call some religious practices asinine...but I'd be lying:

A "serpent-handling" West Virginia pastor died after his rattlesnake bit him during a church ritual, just as the man had apparently watched a snake kill his father years before.

Pentecostal pastor Mark Wolford, 44, hosted an outdoor service at the Panther Wildlife Management Area in West Virginia Sunday, which he touted on his Facebook page prior to the event...

Robin Vanover, Wolford's sister, told the Washington Post that 30 minutes into the outdoor service, Wolford passed around a poisonous timber rattlesnake, which eventually bit him.

"He laid it on the ground," Vanover said in the interview, "and he sat down next to the snake, and it bit him on the thigh."

Not "some" --- "all" religious practices.

Most of them just kill you more slowly. Starting with the brain.

my parents of course dragged me to church, but I never believed any of it..

as an atheist, and a person who thinks stupid people are dumb...

I laugh at this. oh cruel fate! into the darkness with him!

I lived in WV when I was a kid, and the serpent handlers were active back then, too.

I like these kind of Christians, they actually do the dumb shit that it says in the Bible...

Mark 6:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;

Whenever I get Jehovah's Witless at my door, I always invite them to drink some oven cleaner based upon this passage.

Funny how they quickly stop saying that they believe the Bible is literally true..

The Lord works in mysterious ways. Well ... maybe not that mysterious.

I think his death is sad and anyone who laughs at it is a fucking asshole. At least he practiced what he preached

Science is looking pretty good right now. I have met otherwise rational people who think that homosexuals should be stoned to death.

Evolution can't come soon enough.

It's worth noting that the founder of Christian snake-handling died of the same cause.

"You put your hand in that box, it's between you and the Lord."

At least the snake wasn't bothering me about my sinful life. All the snake wanted, so to speak, was to be left alone. More snakes please.

When did that guy ever bother you about your personal life? Never?

I don't agree with the guy or any other Christian but I have known several good ones. The kind that don't condemn others for their lifestyles. The dead guy seems like one of those to me.

The Preacher made a serious error of judgement in not doing a snake handling course before he embarked on deadly snake handling. Or if he did do a snake handler course he didn't practice what he should have been taught.
In all a tragedy, not just for the preacher, but also for those within his family and congregation.
Also, I won't be jumping off a cliff anytime soon to test my faith in "God".
