Well Adam Lanza's mother appears to have been a bit of a gun paranoid -- she was armed to the teeth.
And her son killed her...undoubtedly before she thought about shooting first.

One of my son's high school friends took his mother's handgun and killed himself. A bright, astoundingly talented kid, he only saw his own flaws and couldn't live with himself.
Fucking guns, I hate them. I see the image of the sweet boy we knew lying in his own blood, and I don't know how his parents survived. And I think of those little bitty kids, shot over and over and the anger turns to fury because that boy had access to guns. An entire community lies in devastation.
The number of anguished teens plus the availability of guns: do the fucking math.

In case anyone's too dense to get it, the first function of government is to provide for the common defense. You can't even defend yourselves against us. Chumps.
The gun-lobby excuse is, in part, that a well-armed citizenry is a deterrent against government takeover. Oh, really? If the government REALLY wanted to subjugate its citizens, we wouldn't stand a chance, given the arsenal of weapons it has.
