Well, that was pretty surprising

Apparently the opening for 'The Simpsons" last night was directed by a British street artist named Banksy that I'm not going to pretend I heard of before. Pretty strong:

Banksy is a brilliant subversive street artist in London -- graffiti with a message. And he (or she?) is supposedly anonymous...

That's gotta be Banksy, his signature rats are everywhere, and the 20th Century Fox logo looks like something out of a Gothic horror movie. If it's not Banksy directing, it's one long tribute to him....

Banksy has a category to himself over at my place if you want to check him out.

I've disagreed with those who say "The Simpsons" hasn't been fresh in years. Still haven't lost their edge, and this is proof. Banksy is a genius, and Groening (and Fox) are hardcore. Kudos.

Here's Ebert's review of "Exit Through the Gift Shop" which features Banksy:

Haven't seen it but plan to...

what? You don't know Banksy? Yup, time to push the perimeters. On Facebook you can even trade Banksy art like you do flowers and animated frogs.
