Atlas Grifted

This is surely my favorite Ayn Rand story:

An interview with Evva Pryror, a social worker and consultant to Miss Rand's law firm of Ernst, Cane, Gitlin and Winick verified that on Miss Rand's behalf she secured Rand's Social Security and Medicare payments which Ayn received under the name of Ann O'Connor (husband Frank O'Connor).

As Pryor said, "Doctors cost a lot more money than books earn and she could be totally wiped out" without the aid of these two government programs. Ayn took the bail out even though Ayn "despised government interference and felt that people should and could live independently... She didn't feel that an individual should take help."

But alas she did and said it was wrong for everyone else to do so.

Someone should ask Paul Ryan or Rand Paul about this -- but that would require, y'know, journalism.

Rand also is often alleged to have done the bump & grind with Alan Greenspan back in the day, though it may have been a more metaphorical handjob, while married -- one of her infidelities.

In short, Ayn Rand, was completely fucked up and a hypocrite.

Too bad she didn't live to see how profitable that was in modern Republicans.

America's weakest link: Sociopathic, hypocritical, moronic, ego maniacs and their anti-intellectual, know-nothing, idiot spawn.

But then everyone finds Jesus, and their vainness, hypocrisy, lying, cheating, infidelities, not meant to be factual utterances etc are all forgiven by the god who loves them. Rand prided herself on her lack of a need for god, religion, one of the seven deadly sins...

A terrible person, even worse at fiction, and worst of all at social theory. A failure in so many senses she gives George W. a run for his money.

libertarians justify this by saying "well, she paid into it so it was her right to get her money back out".

Which, of course, neglects the fact that she didn't do it because she wanted her money back, she did it because she needed to do it to pay for doctors. She actually couldn't make do all by herself without the aid of collective action and government infrastructure.

In short her world view was fundamentally flawed and she wasn't actually able to survive in the manner she desired without some of that horrible government assistance after all.

If only we could compare the purchasing power of 1.5M in 1977 dollars to today. http://www.dollartimes.com/calculators/inflation.htm

As I have noted elsewhere, modern conservatism is the bastard child of Rand and Leo Strauss.

And Dockers are the bastard clothing of Rand and Levi Strauss.

Malaclypse, wow using that calculator... Atlas Shrugged would have been a box office flop even in 1975... bringing in a whopping $408,568.69 in it's first weekend...

I grew up watching that nitwit. She hit every talk show she could and I concluded at a pretty young age that she was a fraud of epic proportions!
She was nothing more than the female
equivalent of L. Ron Hubbard. The right wing is desperate. They need heroes, which are usually hard to find in a group that represents the morally bereft, so they manufacture them. Nothing new here...

thanks for the help translating 77 dollars into 2011 dollars or whatever.
didn't feel the need to.
Repukes would spin it as they wished the media to feed the masses.
