Can't you just picture Richard Cohen going around the Washington Post newsroom today retelling all of Jay Leno's already rehashed material, especially with the ladies. After all, he knows comedy -- and how to play grabass.
In what should be an annual ritual, let us recall what led this moment, when "real comedy" unseen since 96-year old Bob Hope stopped reading off his cue-cards, returned.
It's at about 6:30 that he REALLY starts kicking the presses ass that really hit home (and notice the laughs evaporate) it was awesome (and 9:50 when Bush has to ask what a joke means).

What a night that was.
So OnA, was this monologue before or after the Iraqis showed their gratitude to Bush by throwing a shoe at him?
Leno was awful. The video bits, which you think might have yielded a joke nugget or two were just sad. Obama gave a good performance. He's as good as Reagan and Clinton in his ability to tell a joke. I like that he went after the press in a couple of jokes, but also with a more serious, none-to-subtle jab about reporting the truth. Not that it'll sink in. You have to be capable of shame for that to work.
the gnews like bland best.
