Sorry Santa, but you were breaking and entering

Can you imagine how many times an actual being with the power to enter your home one night a year would have been gunned down by various Americans over the years?

They'd murder him like Wayne LaPierre murders the truth...constantly and at 30 clips a minute.
On Sunday morning, Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the National Rifle Association, told the world that armed guards stopped school shootings in Israel. Israel begs to differ. ...

But according to Yigal Palmor, spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, it's not. More specifically, the two situations are "fundamentally different," and Israel's actually tightened its gun control laws in recent years.
Well that just matches LaPierre's deceit about "violent games and movies" being to blame for mass shootings...given the fact that every other western nation has these same games...but not the guns...and not the number of mass shootings.

Funny that. And not because it is humorous.

“Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead,” said Scrooge. “But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change.”

Happy and peaceful holidays to all, including the NRA. May they be peaceable and stop threatening people with their guns for a day or two.

Peace on earth, good will towards men.
It's Christmas morning, and I'm scanning RH before opening presents. Take THAT, Santa.

I'm still haunted by Michael Moore's assertion in Bowling For Columbine that Canada has more guns per capita than we do, but the violence not so much. He seems to assert (and I think he might have a point) that income disparity and poverty is the main thing making for despair and craziness here.

That, and the special kind of right-wing crazy that's been growing in this country, highly correlated with the military fetish, assault weapons, and being number one macho bad-ass. A lot of things feed that sick attitude (mass media self-righteous-authority-figure violence porn included.)

No cigar.

Number of guns per capita by country (2007)

United States: 88.8 per 100 people, ranked #1 in the world.

Canada: 30.8 per 100 people, ranked #13 in the world.

It's interesting as a secondary effect to wonder why Canada's death rate from homicides is 1/5th of ours, when they have 1/3 as many guns.

Cultural differences probably do count some. But I'd personally think Canada's history of gun regulation and auditing might have more to do with it.

89 guns for every 100 men, women and children. So do the relatively few actual gun nuts(20 percent of gun owners possess 65 percent of the nation's guns) have them scattered around like reading glasses? One on the nightstand, one on the kitchen counter, one on the car dash, etc.?
