While Stewart does an interesting interview here, I have one critical question that I would like answered - Is Pop Star/American Idol really what we want to export?
Popular culture and the struggling Afghani culture of odd reality television-based social democracy intertwine in the wildly popular Tolo TV - which is whether we want to admit it or not a sort of Afghani Idol. A cycle of Tolo TV is the subject of the documentary movie 'Afghan Star,' due to have a limited release in the United States on June 26. Perhaps this discussion deserves as much attention as Susan Boyle?
The discussion between Stewart and Saad Mohseni is as much nuance as an exploration of culture as an instrument of social
change in Afghanistan is going to receive in the media today.
