WASHINGTON - Hours before adjourning for the year, the U.S. Congress on Saturday sent President George W. Bush legislation that would open 8.3 million acres in the Gulf of Mexico to oil and natural gas drilling and redistribute billions of dollars in royalties to four Gulf states...
Rep. Bobby Jindal, a Louisiana Republican and one of the drilling measure's main supporters, said Bush will sign the bill into law.
To be fair, the Deepwater Horizon wasn't birthed from that bill, but it is of a part. The legacy of this spill has Republican prints all over it, including the lax regulation and inspection (and lax is being king, criminal is being accurate). Obama inherits the clean up and is responsible for it. In a way, truly a metaphor for our times -- Republicans criticizing Democrats for cleaning up their messes.

Since most Americans speak English, I think its important that we not say Obama "inherited" problems from the Bush Administration. The usage of "inherit" might fly in a language with fewer words available to express one's self. He didn't become President by lottery, and he wasn't ordered from another division to deal with problems that he couldn't observe from his previous post. He chose to run for President.
Obama has not inherited the crimes of the previous administration. He chose to take the responsibility for solving them or dealing with the fallout.
agreed-and the groans about the remnent marshlands that have been decimated by oil companies cutting channels for their boats and rigs for many years is pretty hypocritical, too. The destruction of the Gulf has many fingerprints on it-this is just the biggest.
