Not great but not awful

Jobs +114k (meh, but not holy shit!) and unemployment down to 7.8% and apparently not because of people giving up -- for once.

Those numbers, sorry Joe Scarborough, are not good news for Republicans (they're not awesome for Democrats either, but more good than bad)

But I have a feeling the Party that doesn't believe in the Big Bang, Evolution, Global Warming, Birth Certificates, or scientific polling is going to have a hard time believe the BLS.

Oh and BTW,

The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for July was revised from
+141,000 to +181,000, and the change for August was revised from +96,000 to
+142,000

I'm not an economist by any means, but isn't the Payroll Survey which continues to usually be higher than the BLS numbers generally on reflection end up being accurate on the revised numbers of late?

Be interesting if in November the number is September ends up being about plus 176k.

And thus ends my economic speculation and regurgitation of the sum total of what I've learned from Atrios, Krugman and DeLong.

Atrios, Krugman, and DeLong -- not a bad set of instructors...and even sounds like a plausible name for an accounting firm.

Now, the anti-Obama gang, led by doddering Jack Welch, is hollering that the Bureau of Labor Statistics cooked the numbers.

This is better than Monty Python.

Welch can't stand that there are a couple generations of people who have no idea who is is and what a ratfucking bastard he used to be.

I hope this is the start of a real recovery.

As I remember, the Republicans were really cooking the books in the months leading up to the 2008 election:

August 2008: Initially 84,000, revised to 175,000
September 2008: Initially 159,000, revised to 321,000
October 2008: Initially 240,000, revised to 380,000
November 2008: Initially 533,000, revised to 597,000
December 2008: Initially 524,000, revised to 681,000
January 2009: Initially 598,000, revised to 655,000

And those revisions came after the election, of course.

It's like when Rmoney came up and said Obama was going to lie during the debates. You gotta recognize it for what it is, and put your helmet and goggles on. Believe it or not, everyone isn't evil like them.
