Lemme guess, "NOBODY COULD HAVE PREDICTED" is the line you are thinking of?

It's one thing for a the usual right-wing blog brigade to unskew polls and reality, but the fact that Romney, Ryan and their pollsters did it too let's you know that they really did live in a world hermetically sealed off from reality.

...they believed the public/media polls were skewed - they thought those polls oversampled Democrats and didn't reflect Republican enthusiasm. They based their own internal polls on turnout levels more favorable to Romney. That was a grave miscalculation, as they would see on election night.

Those assumptions drove their campaign strategy: their internal polling showed them leading in key states, so they decided to make a play for a broad victory: go to places like Pennsylvania while also playing it safe in the last two weeks.

Those assessments were wrong.

Goodness knows that would have worked out reaaaaaaallllll well if they were at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Republicans have become so loathsome even to themselves that they self-identify to pollsters as "Independent".

Didn't Cheney set up his own "unskewed" intelligence operation? I shouldn't be surprised that the GOP stove-piped and curve-balled the polls, but I am. They really believe their bullshit. That's pretty god-damned scary.

My favorite sentence in the link:

"He was shellshocked," one adviser said of Romney.

Good thing he didn't say "brainwashed", right dad?

This is how war with Iran would have been started. With the Romney Cartel, against all evidence, just "knowing" from the deepest levels of their knowing place, that Iran had stockpiled tens and hundreds of ICBMs capable of reaching America's Heartland.

Just like the W Cartel, against all evidence, just "knew" from the deepest levels of their knowing place, that Iraq had stockpiled weapons of mass destruction including nuclear and biological weapons.

And, the Romney Cartel would have been shell shocked to learn that there were no nukes. No one ever could have predicted..... Oh well.

Just like they all "know" that America is going "broke" and that we live in a white Beaver Cleaver America.

No conservative or Republican should ever be given responsibility again. For anything.

If they had even a passing acquaintance with reality, they wouldn't still be Republicans. Believing the most preposterous BS is how you prove your loyalty in an authoritarian organization.

I wonder how much Joseph Smith's "White Horse" prophecy figures into this. If Rmoney really believed that he was fulfilling church prophecy, that he couldn't lose because he was divinely ordained, that would be a powerful crowbar in the electrical box of reality, and such an attitude could easily infect the entire campaign from the top down.

Rmoney's just smart enough not to talk about this--it could queer his future chances for national office--but, if one is looking for an explanation for an entire organization's inability to see daylight, that might be part of it.
