Newsmax via the New York Post on Monday:
Even though they had plenty of notice that Pope John Paul II was in his last days, the big three television networks have so far opted not to deploy their big guns to Rome to cover his death.
ABC anchorman Peter Jennings, for instance, begged off on making the trek - saying he was "feeling under the weather," according to the New York Post.
The purpose and style of the report was to make Jennings look like a chump.
Of course, we now know that Peter Jennings was really under the weather.
Peter Jennings, the chief ABC News anchorman for more than 20 years, has been diagnosed with lung cancer and will begin outpatient treatment next week, the network said Tuesday.
Any apologies forthcoming?
