A Very Special This Day in History

July 20, 1969: A Small Step for (a) Man, a Giant Leap for Mankind.

A seminal moment for anybody over 40, the landing of the Eagle on the Moon, where Neil Armstrong and then Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first humans on any other foreign world [as opposed to worlds Rush Limbaugh may have believed he was visiting during a good oxycontin buzz].

Through the years a lot of faux proposals have come from various President's about the need to leave terra firma. The current President's father made an empty effort to visit Mars, which went by the wayside. Clinton promised only to get the International Space Station up and he did -- albeit in a form far less than promised at a higher cost -- cost still going up as the erector set is someday completed.

The current "special" office assignee trumped out a joke of a proposal to go back to the Moon and Mars (without real spending increases) earlier this year to a well-deserved round of rasberries. It is likely, for some insane reason, he will wheel out the proposal again sometime soon.

Meanwhile, the Attaturk endorsed "Space Elevator" remains out there for the doing.

C'mon people.
