"You are screwing with the forces of nature".

I'm watching Steve Kroft interview Julian Assange on "60 Minutes". By way of asking Assange if he's surprised that the U.S. government is gunning for him, Kroft tells Assange, "You are screwing with the forces of nature". Can someone please explain the source of the U.S. government's power to Steve Kroft? Even a nitwit Teabagger could do that. Sheesh. I was waiting for Assange to call him on that, but Assange let it go. I think Assange realizes that he's dealing with your basic Village Idiot.

And Gawker is spot-on with regard to Bill Keller's little hit-job on Assange. Keller's terror that Assange has showed the NYT for the has-been servant of power that it is comes through loud and clear.

Reminds me of Ned Beatty's tirade at Peter Finch in NETWORK: "You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it!"

Speaking truth to power? How awful. Like my favorite sign from the Tunisian and Egyptian rebellions - Game Over.

There's an explanation for that, Vox.
Media only liked El Baradei when he was seen to be opposing the Bush gov't.

But nowadays El Baradei is just another idiot vying to replace another idiot. (Mubarak)
Previously, he was an idiot but was supporting other idiots. (the Mullahs)

Here is how the average journalist views it :

replacing idiot = boring

supporting idiots = newsworthy

That may not be the dumbest statement in recorded history, but, it's high on the list.

How does it feel to be the pus in the pilonidal cyst of conservatism, Orifices and Assholes?

Well Montag, you have to cut OA some slack. In his world the NYT is a leftist shit rag. He's still trying to process the fact that actual left of center people view it as a tool of - at best - the status quo - and at worst - working on behalf of his interest. He'll work it out though. I'm sure he has some thirty-five year old quote lined up about communism to buck him up.

Assange showed a maddeningly level of restraint in that interview.
He should have told Kroft "I'm exposing corruption in government and industry- Hey, that used to be YOUR job at 60 Minutes, before you were assimilated."

I agree with you about the Keller piece. He takes serious pains to categorize Assange as a "source" and not a proper "journalist," despite the fact that WikiLeaks is in the midst of releasing the biggest scoop of the 21st century - a scoop Assange has graciously allowed the Grey Lady to get participate in.

Apparently there were six hours of 60 Minutes interview, and the ~25 minutes of airtime were the snippets that Kroft (or CBS) wanted us to see.

...the NYT is a leftist shit rag.

Leftist and shitty, yes definitely!
But probably not a "rag" in the usual slang use of the term. (a gossip tabloid)

And The Old Grey Whore is probably long past t'other slang use of the term, so don't bother trying to convince us of that one, either, Dan.
