Every Picture Tells a Story

Not sure if you have read the New Yorker article about Wikileaks founder Julian Assange from a few issues, back, but if you have not, it's here.

John Cole just pointed his readers to an interview with Assange by an outfit called TED.

I'm curious about my reaction to Assange based on the photographed published in the New Yorker story vs. the TED video. I thought the New Yorker photo (and story) made Assange seem flakier than he seems the TED video (which is to say, not at all).

The NYer profile seemed to suggest a pretty broad streak of anarchy in his philosophy. In comments to the TED link, a lot is made of an article in Mother Jones, his rebuttal, and their rebuttal/follow up article. I liked being able to see him present himself without the filter of a reporter telling us about him; of course, the reporters saw him in action over many days, and the TED talk was a 20 minute presentation of himself by himself. I'm glad he is doing this (WikiLeaks) and hope that he continues to be focused on his core value, as articulated in the TED talk (a good person doesn't create victims, but nurtures them).

Nice article in the New Yorker. I thought he was getting out news the media wouldn't or couldn't afford to make public.
Nice that someone has the time and resources to tackle the mysterious and unexplained nefarious deeds of the remote oligarchial power elite.

I heard this Fresh Air interview about Wikileaks last week and found it very interesting and informative:
