Better somewhat late than never

After sitting on his hands a while, Obama finally weighed in on an Islamic Community Center's wanton destruction of an abandoned Burlington Coat Factory in the general vicinity of the former World Trade Center.

Let me be clear: as a citizen, and as President, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country, and will not be treated differently by their government, is essential to who we are. The writ of our Founders must endure.

Good!

The President's speech restores my faith in humanity; the comments section takes it away.

These people aren't qualified to govern.
They're qualified for Thorazine and a strait jacket.

In your guts, you know they're nuts.

Whatever Obama is, he speaks with a measure of grace, reason, and from the premier position of authority left in this country.
Give em hell Barrack.

WTF does this mean? I despise the Vacuous Opportunist and I don't give a shit that he finally got one small thing half right. Fuck him. Yeah, it should endure like Senator O'Bummer's work on the (former) Fourth Amendment and FISA and telecom immunity.

Republican Representative Peter King of New York has declared Obama to be wallowing in political correctness by insisting on religious freedom of conscience.

How these haters of the most fundamental of American constitutional principles continue to be identified as defenders of America is astounding.

Short of a Palin dictatorship and the roll back of universal freedom and democracy, these people's desire to take their country back will remain thwarted.

Today's conservative movement (aka TeaBag/Fox News/Neo John Birch Nation) don't want a knowlegable, educated citizenship. That would completely expose their fraud. And, it's hard to get power in a democracy when you're running a scam if people know it's a scam.

That's why they despise objective knowledge, critical thinking and democracy. That's why they constantly keep people off guard with a cascade of faux crises invloving created internal and external enemies of the nation. That's why they play on base fears and prejudice. No time to spend getting informed or critaically when you're panicing.

And of course Obama backs away from a principled stand less than a day later:

“I was not commenting, and I will not comment, on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there”

Very few votes halfway between Earth and Planet Teatard. There's Frank. But he's busy, and I believe he let his voter registration expire a few years back.

genius DLC advisors helped kill BO's high approval ratings. congrats.

my enmity for nader has softened somewhat since 2000, but something he said stuck with me. he said obama is "ideologically insecure." how can you be almost 50 and not know what you stand for? left or right, nobody likes a tremulous weenie.
